ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

APPLYING FOR ADMISSION

Admissions are done during the first semester. However, a few transfer students may be accepted during the second semester. Applicants should apply well in advance by the following deadlines. All application materials must be submitted by April 15.

 

Note:  The College reserves the right to make changes in deadlines as necessary.

 

ADMISSON AS A FRESH STUDENT

An applicant must submit the following:

  • A completed application for admission and a non-refundable application fee; mature students will also fill the matures students’ application form.
  • An official results slip or transcript and testimonial from the student’s last school must be submitted at the time of application directly to the Office of the Academic Office.

If the student is currently attending another institution, a transcript from the previous institution (s) should be requested and sent directly to the Office of the Academic Secretary. It is the responsibility of the student to arrange for transcripts (s) and /or transfer form to be mailed and to assure that they arrive promptly. Hand carried transcripts (s) are not acceptable.

 

ADMISSION TO DEGREE PROGRAMS

Five main categories of candidates are considered for admission to the year Bachelor’s Degree in the College of integrative Medical Sciences. They are:

 

General Certificate of Education:

Passes, at least, at credit level in 5 subjects (including English Language, Mathematics, and a Science Subject) in the GCE/WASC Ordinary level examination and 3 passes at the Advance Level of the GCE. Two of the advanced Level passes must be grade “D” or better. A pass in General paper must be obtained. Applicants with GCE ‘A ’Level passes will not be required to sit for the University Entrance Examination.

 

Senior Secondary School Certificate:

Passes in the core English, core Mathematics and core Science and three elective subjects, with an aggregate score of 24 or better in the WAEC Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.

A pass in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination is understood to mean a candidate’s performance at grade raging between A and E, and interpreted as follows.

A             -              (Excellent)
B             -              (Very Good)
C             -              (Good)
D             -              (Credit)
E              -              (Pass)

 

Mature Student’s Entry Requirement (MSER):

Age: At least 25 years

a) Relevant professional experience, or

b) Authorship of some work in relevant field.

c) The applicant must also pass the University Entrance Examination (UEE) which comprises:

 

  • General Paper (including a section in English Language) for all candidates
  • Examination in Mathematics and
  • English Language for those who do not have G.C.E; O; Level credit passes.

 

Foreign Students:

Foreign students may be considered for admission if they hold qualifications equivalent to those mentioned above. However, they must show evidence of proficiency in English language.

 

ADMISSION TO DIPLOMA PROGRAMS 

Four main categories of candidates are considered for admission to the Diploma in Higher Education course in the College of Integrative Medical Sciences. They are:

 

General Certificate of Education

Passes, at least, at credit level in five (5) subjects (including English Language, Mathematics and Arts subject and a Science subject) in the GCE/WASC Ordinary Level examinations and two (2) passes at the Advance Level of the GCE.

 

Senior Secondary School Certificate

Passes in the core English, core Mathematics and core Science and three electives subjects, with an aggregate score of 30 or better in the WAEC Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations. 
A pass in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination is understood to mean a candidate’s performance at grade ranging between A and E, and interpreted as follows:

A             -              1(Excellent)
B             -              2(Very Good)
C             -              3(Good)
D             -              4(credit)
E              -              5(Pass)

 

Foreign Students

Foreign students may be considered for admission if they hold qualifications equivalent to those previously mentioned. However, they must show evidence of proficiency in English language. In addition they will be required to pass the UEE.

 

Mature Student’s Entry Requirement (MSER)

Mature persons applying for admission, who do not satisfy the above requirements must have reasonable education and working experience and should have attained the minimum age of 25 years at the time of submitting their applications. Successful candidates are selected on the basis of passing the University Entrance Examination (UE) and an interview.

 

5. UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAMS

The University Entrance Examination (UEE) will consist of two papers as follows:

5.1. A General Paper, to test standard of written English, Vocabulary, Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. The questions shall be mainly Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s).
